THE KI-MAASAI INITIATIVE

In 2022, we watched a family lose a whole herd of cattle to a minor drought and families struggled to make ends meat because of delayed rains. No one could help as many were affected. Seeing this, we decided to do something about. And we are.

The KI-MAASAI INITIATIVE was born from a place of seeking out solutions for a community affected by climate change through drought. Couldn't we prepare better and mitigate climate change impacts? Couldn't we ensure the future generations wouldn't face the same struggles? We could, we can and we are!

So the beautiful story began and we are on a committed journey to changing a landscape and empower a community sustainably.

At Beulah Valleys, we are committed to bringing lasting change to our community through sustainable agriculture. Our tree planting and organic farming initiatives are making a real impact on the Maasai community in our county. Explore with us and learn more about our commitment to creating a better future through eco-friendly farming.

We are not simply planting Trees, but we are growing forests for the future to ensure a community is able to be self-sustainable and thrive even in the face of climate change. The KI-MAASAI INITIATIVE is where we create cyclic eco-systems among the Maasai, who are mostly women in this case, to ensure they thrive economically and beyond whilst ensuring the environment is cherished and cared for.

KI-MAASAI

The Ki-Maasai Initiative is a partnership program with different families who we work with to create value from their land. The project started in Kiserian, Maasai land thus the name.

Our aim is to create a cyclic self-sustaining ecosystem that ensures climate change mitigation and alleviation from poverty. Our main aims are to plant trees, grow grass and install bio digesters that can serve as alternatives to cutting down trees.

On top of that, we engage the trees in Carbon markets so that the families will always get value from the trees without cutting them down.

Tree growing

We aim to grow forests with indigenous trees that are secure and become a haven for bio-diversity. In every region we operate, we aim to use the Miyawaki method to grow quickly self-sustaining forests. This means we aim at a tree density range of 6,000 to 8,000 trees per acre. These trees are also enlisted for carbon credits through our partner Open Forest Protocol.

Concurrent Crop Growing

To serve the community both short and long-term. Beulah Valleys invests in growing Grass for livestock and other crops that can be commercially viable locally. This enables the community to ensure their animals are well fed and they have enough to sell and create an income.

Cyclic Economy

By introducing bio-digesters, we mitigate the need to cut down trees and make use of cow dung and agricultural waste efficiently.

This also means we invest in ensuring water supply is mitigated by boreholes. The cyclic system means there is no waste and the communities are self-sustaining.
